Guyana Health Ministry Forced To Move After Fire

CaribWorldNews, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Mon. July 20, 2009: The Ministry of Health in Guyana has been forced to seek temporary accommodation in other government agencies after fire destroyed its headquarters on Friday.

Police in the South American nation were yesterday continuing their investigations into the cause of the early Friday afternoon fire that destroyed the building in Brickdam, Georgetown. But arson is believed to be the culprit.

President Bharrat Jagdeo said he is offering a $125,000 reward for information that leads to the arrests of those who set fire to the wooden building.

Health Minister Leslie Ramsammy immediately cancelled the ministry`s security contract with Brans Security Services , blaming a breach of security for the fire.  Ramsammy told the press briefing that he received `confirmation that people entered his ministry`s compound and firebombed the building`, while Brans personnel were on site.

The fire destroyed centuries of records.
