Guyanese Jailed For Ecstasy

CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. July 16, 2009: A 37-year-old Guyanese will spend the next 43 months in jail or trying to smuggle Ecstasy tablets into the United States.

Shaundell C. Phillips, a green card holder of Wilmington, Delaware, was sentenced Tuesday to three years and seven months in federal prison for trying to smuggle 2,000 Ecstasy tablets into the United States via the Lewiston- Queenston Bridge last December.

U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers found the drugs hidden in a black leather case inside the air cleaner of his car on Dec. 18, 2006. The pills had a street value of about $50,000. Phillips later pleaded guilty.

After Phillips finishes his prison term, he will be deported back to Guyana under U.S. immigration laws that make green card holders who commit crimes deportable.
