Haiti Sets Election Date

CaribWorldNews, Port-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Mon. June 28, 2010: An election date has been set in Haiti.

Haitian President René Préval over the weekend issued a decree that declared Haitians will go to the polls on November 28th.

The date comes three months ahead of the end of Preval`s five-year term ends in February. Haiti`s parliament voted has granted him a three month extension if a successor is not chosen by the constitutional Feb. 7 date.

Some forty-four million dollars is needed to stage the election and is likely to come from the international community anxious to ensure transparency and good governance in the Caribbean nation, whose capital was decimated by a January 12th earthquake.
