Minister Hopes Killer Of Jamaican Doctor Will Be Found

CaribWorldNews, KINGSTON, Jamaica, Fri. Jan. 8, 2010: Jamaica`s Minister of Health says he`s hopeful the killer of a local doctor will be found and brought to justice quickly.

Minister Rudyard Spencer`s comments comes on the heels of the murder of District Medical Officer, Dr. Donlevy Hibbert.

Dr. Hibbert, 55, was found dead at his home on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. He was assigned to the Darliston Health District, Westmoreland Health Services.

`I am deeply disturbed at the murder of Dr. Hibbert. On behalf of the health family, I wish to extend heartfelt sympathies to his family as they go through this difficult period,` said minister Spencer THursday.

Dr. Hibbert began working in the government health sector in 1979.

Dr. Winston De La Haye, President Medical Association of Jamaica, echoed the minister`s call in a statement while citing the significant contribution of Dr. Hibbert to public health care in his community.

`The Medical Association of Jamaica is deeply concerned about the increasing number of violent acts being committed against our colleagues and their families,` he added. `While we strive to provide quality health care for all Jamaica, we urge the Government of this country to do all that is necessary to ensure that we have a safe Jamaica for hard working citizens to live and work in.`
