CaribWorldNews, BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Weds. Mar. 24, 2010: A 25-year-old Barbados national will spend the next 10 years of his life in jail for the 2009 killing of a Canadian national.
Curtis Joel Foster was this week jailed for the Feb. 28, 2009, slaying of Ottawa resident Terry Schwarzfeld. Foster reportedly accosted Ms. Schwarzfeld and her daughter-in-law, Luana Cotsman, while the two were out for an afternoon walk on Barbados` Long Beach last February.
After demanding money from the women, he struck them both on the head with a piece of wood the size of a baseball bat when they were unable to comply.
Cotsman survived, but Schwarzfeld never regained consciousness. She died of brain injuries two weeks after being airlifted to Ottawa, Canada.
Foster, who had eight prior criminal convictions, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter in January.
