Caribbean Going Backward Not Forward – Scholar

CaribWorldNews, BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Weds. Feb. 24, 2010: A former professor at the UWI, Cave Hill campus claims leadership across the Caribbean is going against the tide instead of moving forward.

Dr. Rosina Wiltshire made the claims in an address on migration at the UWI, Cave Hill campus. Wiltshire, according to the Barbados Advocate, said current Caribbean leadership must respond in accordance with the present reality of greater regional unity in order to avoid becoming failed states.

The professor also slammed the policies of the English-speaking Caribbean as lacking vision and insisted that there is no real policy to deal with migration.

This as Wiltshire also pointed out that the Caribbean lost over 40 percent of its skilled labor to migration in the last decade and that 80 percent of youth surveyed said if given a chance, they too will migrate.
