Top local bodybuilders Damion Daniel and Hafid Tyrone James have returned from the 2016 Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, steeped in victory.
Daniel is the new heavyweight bodybuilding Champion in the entire CAC region while James secured second spot in the Men’s Physique Class in the high profile tournament, which ran from September 29th to October 2nd.
Daniel, a police corporal attached to Prime Minister Keith Mitchell’s security detail burst unto the scene in competitive bodybuilding several years ago and remained dedicated to his craft carving out a name for himself regionally.
Daniel continued to constantly improve and over the last several months has made Grenada proud within the region by winning every competition he has taken part in.
Tyrone James also made his country proud by winning a silver medal at the CAC.
Six months ago at the annual Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus Ohio, one of the biggest Bodybuilding competitions in the world bringing the best bodybuilders from across the globe, James won his class in the Men’s Physique division which was the largest of the physique class beating out 42 other athletes. Although he didn’t win overall and so didn’t get his pro card, he made Grenada the highest placing and first Caribbean island to win the Ohio Arnold’s classic.
Minister for Youth, Sport and Religious Affairs, Roland Bhola said with these two athletes creating avenues where Grenadians are now being recognized, on international stages in the area of body building, government will take a better look at the sport and probably put it on our calendar.
He said he would ensure that his ministry starts putting things in place to see how the area of bodybuilding can become more attractive locally.
