Guyana`s Lady Guymine To Be Waked In New York


CaribWorldNews, BROOKLYN, NY, Tues. June 2, 2009: Top Guyanese calypsonian, Lady Guymine, is set to be waked in New York this Thursday, a week after she passed away in the capital of her homeland.

Born Monica Chopperfield, Lady Guymine, will be remembered at the wake planned for June 4th from 7 p.m. at the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Hall, 2806 Newkirk Avenue and East 28 Street in Brooklyn, New York.

The wake is being presented by the Guyana Cultural Association New York Inc. and the Guyana Folk Festival Committee. Chopperfield, 77, passed away on May 28th at a Georgetown, Guyana hospital after reporting feeling unwell. Her funeral arrangements in Guyana have not been confirmed.
A memorial service for the singer, who was most famous for the song, `Granny Fit,`  is set for Sunday, June 14 from 3.30 p.m. at the Union United Methodist Church, 121 New York Avenue (bet. Dean – Bergen) in Brooklyn, New York.
