Guyanese Cop Shoots Another, Self


CaribWorldNews, SPRINGLANDS, Guyana, Tues. July 6, 2010: A senior police commander in Guyana fatally shot a junior officer and then turned the gun on himself in a precinct in the Berbice region of Guyana.

Guyanese police officials yesterday said Assistant Superintendent Ivelaw Murray, 33, used his .38 service weapon to shoot and kill Constable Kelvin Shepherd, 22, called `Black Hat,` of Lot 322 Welcome Street, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice around midnight on Saturday in his bed at the barracks of the Springlands police station.

Murray then reportedly turned his weapon on himself. Police brass say they are still investigating the case to determine the cause of the murder-suicide.
