New Grenville Bus Terminus

Three days before the eve of Christmas, buses throughout the town of Grenville got the long-awaited opportunity to commence operation at the new Grenville Bus Terminus though still incomplete, located at Moon Shadow Park.

This initiative was considered a move in the right direction by bus drivers and conductors and within one week of operation from the new location it proved a successful and smooth transition but not without the effort of the Royal Grenada Police Force, RGPF.

Officers were out in full force at the terminus and on the street directing the buses as to where they should park, drop off and pick up their passengers at the terminus.

The zones are numbered; making it very easy for all buses, while officers out on the streets were also providing direction concerning the streets the buses should use to facilitate smooth traffic flow.

No buses are allowed to enter Grenville from the Canal Road direction but were made to use the Salisbury Road route into Sendall Street then into the bus terminal. A bus could only use the Town of Grenville for the purpose of exiting the town.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Kingston told the Informer that as with everything else there were some hurdles and some challenges but it is believed that everything would work out successful.

The transfer of buses from the streets into the terminus did not only create an opportunity for the buses but also have access to parking spaces for privately own vehicles, something which will ease some of the congestion in the town.

According to a security guard at the terminus, the facility is not yet officially open up for business although there are some shops there.

The toilet facilities on the compound are not yet being utilized but a number of mobile toilets had been made available and are in use there.

There is still a lot of work to be done at the facility, which includes the second phase before the facility is fully complete, he said.

One business in Grenville close to the terminus has already begun to see tremendous benefit from the opening, as there has been an increase in customers to that business.
