News Americas, PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Thurs. April 7, 2011: The man who years ago named himself President in song now finds himself ready to lead Haiti and is vowing to working together for change.
In a post-election news conference, following the preliminary announcement of the Presidential election results Monday, Michel “Sweet Mikey” Martelly, insisted: “I am president for all Haitians. We are going to work together for change.”
Martelly also insisted he has the capacity to lead a country still on its knees from the January 2010 earthquake, a cholera epidemic and decades of the worst poverty in the hemisphere.
The former bady boy Kompa singer beat out former first Lady Mirlande Manigat to win the March run-off election by won more than two-thirds of the votes. He could assume the Presidency from Rene Preval on April 16th.
