Grenada’s accounting and auditing fraternity are boasting of another major achievement as Audit Clerk at Grenada’s leading audit and accounting firm Pannel Kerr Foster, Neil Titus topped the ACCA Level 9 final paper at the fundamental level, in the December 2018 examinations.
The very aspiring auditor shared the top position with a Trinidad national. Titus, who joined Pannel Kerr Foster in January 2017, captured the top spot in the Caribbean for the level 7 papers in the March 2018 exams.
Titus disclosed to The Grenada Informer in an exclusive interview that he is now bracing himself in preparation for the four ACCA courses at the professional level, which qualifies accountants and auditors at the master’s level.
He said that he is very elated and proud especially among such a long list of names from countries like Trinidad and Jamaica that are frequently listed there and have multiple academies that focus solely on preparing for ACCA full time. He noted that he doesn’t have that advantage here in Grenada.
“As someone who works full time and having to make the time to study for my name to be on the list with Grenada next to it makes me feel honoured,” Titus said.
Titus went on to explain that the hardest part of preparing for the exam is scheduling time to study. He is a firm believer in making use of practice question in becoming familiar with the exam format and having the knowledge in applying.
When was asked what his main goals and aspirations are going forward, Titus explained that he is now on to the professional level with four more exams to go before being fully qualified and is on track to complete within the year. He noted that in the longer term he is looking forward to improving his skills and experience and be prepared for any challenges that come in his career.
He also noted that the examination was very challenging as there were lots of calculations that required precision. He said while he left the examination rooms with some doubts, the news that he had topped the Caribbean for that exam really was an unexpected one. Even though his aim was to get the highest mark in the examination just once, it has happened twice he is really pleased.
Titus shared some advice with aspiring auditors especially those who are working and studying at the same time. He said it comes down to how bad they want it. As for him, he is aware of the opportunities available to him and where his career can take him and makes sure he is self-motivated every time.
ACCA offers nine fundamental level courses equivalent to a Bachelors degree.
